The Papua New Guinea Chamber of Resources & Energy (PNGCORE) has reaffirmed its commitment to helping foster a dynamic and empowered media landscape in PNG.

PNGCORE was the Gold Sponsor of the first-ever PNG Media Summit 2025 held at the Hilton Hotel in Port Moresby earlier this month.

The landmark event, coinciding with World Press Freedom Day, brought together over 200 participants, including journalists, media academics, and policymakers, to explore the evolving role of media in Papua New Guinea.

As part of its sponsorship, PNGCORE had the honour of presenting the Diversity in Media Award at the 2025 PNG Media Awards to Matthew Vari, Digital Director of Post-Courier Online, for his exceptional work in promoting inclusive and representative storytelling.

PNGCORE Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Pansy Taueni-Sialis, said the Chamber is proud to support platforms that foster responsible journalism and open dialogue.

“One of the most valuable relationships any organisation, industry, or public figure can nurture is with the media. In an era shaped by Artificial Intelligence and Digital transformation, the role of the press as a pillar of democracy is more vital than ever,” Mrs. Taueni-Sialis said.

She added that PNGCORE is committed to strengthening partnerships between the resource sector and the media to ensure accurate reporting and a well-informed society.

“We believe in protecting press freedom and supporting a media landscape that reflects the diverse voices and realities of our nation.”

PNGCORE remains a steadfast advocate for ethical journalism, transparency, and open communication in Papua New Guinea.
